Weekly Discussion Post: Predicting the Future
by pockythoughts (pockythoughts)

Hey everybody, it's Tuesday night! And that means it's time for the (slightly later than usual, apologies) weekly discussion post!

This week's discussion, as suggested by second_batgirl, is about the post-series lives of the Rangers. Just what does one do with oneself after retiring from superhero-dom? What kind of careers have former Rangers ended up in? For Rangers whose identities were public, how did that affect their futures? Share all your theories about what your favorites are doing 5 or 10 years after they hang up the tights!

MMPR - Chemistry

Apparently I suggested a lot of topics. :P

Tanya is the one I have the most headcanon for post-Ranger stuff - I tend to assume that she pretty much immediately calls up that producer and becomes super famous, probably eventually winning a bunch of awards.

I also like to think that Adam only has the dojo part time, and that he ends up a writer, since he'd mentioned how many times he'd taken creative writing.

And I love the idea of Kimberly becoming a reporter, but that has no basis in anything other than I like the idea.

For the Rangers who have public identities, I think finding a job becomes really difficult in some ways but easy in others. I like the idea of Ashley getting the fashion career (and guest judging on Project Runway, seriously, make it work) and I also like the idea of the rest of the Space team as UN ambassadors of some sort, or running a charity that helps provide funds for people who have had their homes/livelihoods destroyed by monster attacks.

Also, at some point Carlos and Conner should be on a soccer team together.

You did suggest a lot of topics. This is not necessarily a bad thing.

I kind of headcanon the Space team (and particularly Ashley) in an ambassadorial role in relations between Earth and KO-35. But I still want the Ashley-on-Project-Runway fic; why has no one written this yet.

If I ever actually finish my Adam/Tanya bigbang fic, Ashley as a judge on PR will totally show up in it.

I can see Adam and Rocky still teahcing in their dojos.

Kimberly I can see teaching gymnastics to kids. That just seems so much her. :)

Katherine I always saw more as a big city girl. I can see her in New York, London or Paris teaching ballet.

Tanya very much still DJing or singing and married to Adam!

Seconding the idea of Kimberly becoming a gymnastics coach. She'd be awesome at that. =D

PR - Adam - Amaranth (by me)

I admit...some of my opinions will likely greatly vary from everyone else, given my rather...unpopular opinions on pairings, characters, etc. But let's see here for those I can figure something out...

Jason: I honestly think fiction would mimic reality here, and he would do something like become a firefighter or paramedic. He's got the personality to really carry it out, and it's still a way to keep helping people and saving lives long after being a Ranger.

Trini: I think it could be one of a few different things...something in the mental health field, something related to law, or social/environmental activism. It's very hard for me to choose which one of those would best suit her, because they all seem to. Regardless, she seems the type to be very career-oriented, and isn't very interested in having kids as a result.

Billy: Well, for one, he comes BACK to Earth, and goes back to school, probably a big-name tech school like Cal Tech or MIT, then does something in the sciences, probably NASA or something else related to that field. Who better to work for them than someone who's been all over the universe? Also finally finds the guts to get together with Trini.

Zack: Totally sticks with his love of dancing. Eventually moves to New York and opens up a dance school. A little more with this further down.

Kim: Not sure. She can't do gymnastics forever, after all. Perhaps a coach for young gymnasts as a side thing? Does NOT get back together with Tommy at any point; I actually kind of like the unused semi-canon idea that she marries Skull, who's matured since their high school days. (But Spike is not her kid. I'd think they'd eventually have one or two of their own, though.)

Tommy: He decides he actually likes the teaching gig and sticks with it. Doesn't get back together with Kim OR Kat. Probably prefers the bachelor life, but is willing to date every now and then.

Rocky: Sticks with the martial arts and opens up a school, which then becomes a small regional chain of schools.

Adam: Builds on the stunt show gig and goes into acting, especially in action and martial arts-type movies where he eventually makes it big. The dojo thing is only a side project, co-owning a school with Rocky. Does NOT marry anyone from the Ranger team...possibly even prefers to stay single. In my personal headcanon, he doesn't want kids either. (*watches everyone's brains break with that*)

Aisha: Veterinary school, then continues her work with animals either in a zoo or out in the wild. Possibly does some animal rights activism (of the sane, non-PETA variety) on the side.

Kat: Keeps going with the dancing career, but I'm not sure if she would go with more of the classical ballet style or jazz/musical theatre, or even both. I do kind of like the idea of her being a dancer in Broadway/West End (depending on where she decides to settle down) musicals, though.

Tanya: She heads to New York to pursue her singing career, but finds a niche as a singer in Broadway musicals (but still has a pop music recording career on the side, much like other well-known performers in the field). Eventually meets and totally hits it off with...Zack! (Am I the only one who thinks they would make a smashing couple, despite having never met on the show itself?)

That's about all I can think of at the moment, if only because those are the characters I "get" more than anyone after them. It's harder for me to gauge what other Rangers would be doing, especially those for whom it's part of their career (like SPD) or where their identities are known to the public.

Not gonna lie, I'm kind of in love with the idea of Tanya on Broadway. Also YES to Tommy not reuniting with either Pink Ranger. If anything, he'd end up with Hayley.

And then your blurb on Billy? I can't help but agree with that, since I totally wrote that fic. LOL

power rangers / tenga on the prowl

Jason - Finally accepts that he likes men and starts dating them. Except he's also married to Emily, as she's the only girl he'd go straight for, and she's totally fine with the situation... because she may or may not be the same way.

Zack - Gets married to Angela and they open up a club together.

Billy - May get his phobia back after figuring out how Aquitians mate and leaves for Earth.

Kimberly - Either wrote the letter while pregnant with Spike, or met Skull while visiting her mom in Paris (circa end of Zeo) and got knocked up then. Possibly becomes a gymnastics coach around the time Spike enters Elementary School. Kim and Skull are totally on their honeymoon during Samurai.

Tommy & Kat - Tommy can't keep a quiet life, and Kat settles down with someone else after finishing at the Dance Academy and has babies. But after losing her husband she finds Tommy later in life as her kids are getting ready for college.

Rocky & Adam - They co-own a dojo together, but Adam makes Rocky do all the work while he goes off and fights crime.

Tanya - Gets a big hit single with her debut record, then kinda goes under the radar (with a cult following) until she records a hit duet with Kira and they start writing songs together.

T.J. - He totally goes all Knight Rider with Lightning Cruiser, and Justin does the same with Storm Blaster after he finishes his education.

Tori - Kelly expands Storm Chargers to carry other sporting equipment and hires Tori to help run the place.

Shane & Hunter - They become lead Sensei at their respective schools after the previous ones retire.

Mystic Force - Madison helps Vida get more exposure as a DJ by uploading her stuff to YouTube. Xander may or may not spend money they don't have to upgrade the Rock Porium... but, by luck, he makes it all back anyway.

RPM - Summer, Dillon and Tenaya fall through a time hole in the desert to before the Venjix attacks and possibly stop Venjix from being created. Oh, and they go to the hospital to see baby!Summer next to baby!Tenaya and Dillon in the nursery.

In which I drop out of mod-mode and throw my own opinions around for once
fucking fish

Because theories about this. I have them. 8D

Jason: Spends a few years with the Peace Corps before going on to college.

Trini: Goes to Harvard; at one point in a fic I had her majoring in history.

Zack: Parlays his Peace Conference experience into a degree in political science and a career on Capitol Hill. Is eventually involved in the legislation approving the creation of an SPD branch in Newtech City.

Kimberly: Competes and medals at least once in the Pan-Global-- oh wait, since Samurai happened, we're allowed to say Olympics now! - OLYMPIC games. Gets a ton of endorsements and probably ends up on a Wheaties box. Retires gracefully from competition, then gets into professional coaching, eventually succeeding Gunthar Schmidt as head of the national team. Is NOT Spike's mother.

Billy: Following his experiences working in the Power Chamber and on Aquitar, becomes the first human to successfully tap into the Morphing Grid. After Zordon's death, he becomes something of an unofficial successor to him and dedicates most of his life to creating morphers and overseeing Grid activity. He has a hand in the creation of Lightspeed Rescue, and later in laying the groundwork for the formation of SPD. He and Cestria do separate, but remain good friends.

Rocky: Inspired by his friendship with Justin and experience volunteering at the children's shelter, gets his degree in social work and has a career working with at-risk children. Later on, he's hired as mental health support to SPD.

Adam and Tanya: Are massively successful in their respective careers as a novelist and a singer. Their relationship becomes a huge tabloid sensation, much to Adam's chagrin, and it takes some creative use of teleportation to hide their wedding from the press.

Aisha: Also gets into politics, via her experiences in animal welfare and other forms of activism. Works with Zack on the SPD legislation, and also runs for office at some point.

Justin: Is one of the first people Billy collaborates with on post-Zordon morphing technology. At different points in his scientific career, he works with both NASADA and Lightspeed.

The Space team: Lives primarily on KO-35 where their identities are slightly less of a big deal. They're instrumental in establishing diplomatic relations between Earth and KO-35, and Ashley becomes the official ambassador between the two planets.

Tommy: Teaches in Reefside forever and tries to stay out of trouble, but that's easier said than done. After the fiasco with the Dino Gems, he and Hayley (who are together but take forever to legally marry) make a point of keeping an eye out for natural Power Objects and ensuring they don't fall into the wrong hands. Hayley does some work developing morpher tech for SPD.

The Time Force team: Stay in the past forever after Reinforcements from the Future. Balls to what HQ back in the year 3000 has to say about it. Alex probably figures out some way to keep them from being prosecuted.

I...may or may not come up with more of these.

Re: In which I drop out of mod-mode and throw my own opinions around for once

On Time Force? I've got to say that I can see it happening that Alex drops by at one point right after a huge battle and says that he regrets to inform the teammates from the future that they're all dead--at least according to the history books. He's going to need their morphers to return to the future as proof and advises them to keep a low profile...which they probably don't manage anyway, but somehow or another, they manage to keep the whole thing covered up.

I am a big fan of the idea that Jason completely lost his mind at the Peace Conference and refuses to have anything to do with politics or committees ever again. Becomes firefighter/policeman/army reserve (does America have army reserve?). Marries Trini. Because 'Of Love and Bunnies' has rotted my brain.

Trini & Zack manage to finangle their Peace Conference experiences into vague political careers - Trini doing something for the UN, maybe.

Billy does stuff for KO-35 and meets the Space Rangers and has babies with Cassie after realising Aquitians are incompatible with humans on a massive level.

Kim gets gold medals at whatever event we're calling it now, and then the next one she gets silver, and retires to coach little kids (not competitive ones - you know, six year olds who enjoy tumbling around and tiptoeing across balance beams). Does not hook up with Tommy again, but The Letter gets smoothed over.

Aisha gets a doctorate in something I wouldn't be able to name and becomes the next Jane Goodall. May or may not hook up with Rocky.

Kat goes to London and gets middling/background pieces in ballets. Tries out on a whim for a play and scores the main role, is then turned on to musicals. Becomes a massive name for Broadway nerds, and plays Mark in a gender-swapped version of Rent, opposite...

Tanya, who plays Collins. Gets a semi-cult following as a singer and branches out into musicals. May or may not hook up with Adam.

Rocky & Adam open a dojo together - Rocky went to business school while Adam was doing his stunt shows & making contacts in that world. A bunch of their students become extras in action films & they therefore get publicity for that. Adam still writes, but under a penname & majority of profits goes to a fund for victims of monster attacks (like most Power Rangers merchandise does). They either end up with Aisha/Tanya or each other, I flipflop.

I think the whole bunch of PRiS guys stay as Rangers and float around space doing good.
